My first recipe for the New Year! This hot chocolate is not your ordinary cocoa! No, this gorgeous drink is really a Red Velvet dessert that is perfectly suitable for a romantic Valentine’s night. The chocolate drink is made with white chocolate, cocoa, heavy cream, and milk, and then topped off with the creamiest frosting.
The result is a luscious, thick, and creamy dessert drink that works perfectly well for your low-carb diet. No added sugars, no gluten, just some good old fat and protein! The recipe makes two large servings (or 3 smaller servings). Each serving has 7 grams of net carbs and is very filling!

Tips for making the creamiest Red Velvet Hot Chocolate!
Red color. I use Watkins Natural Food Dye to color the hot chocolate, but you can use any kind really, even beet powder. The amount of color needed will depend on your preferences and the type of dye you use. Food coloring does affect the flavor of the chocolate, so I like to taste the drink and topping before I add more color.
You can also completely leave out any dye. Not everyone likes to use coloring in their food and the hot chocolate will be just as yummy without any red coloring!
Topping. Prepare the topping first and store it in the fridge while making the hot chocolate. Use softened cream cheese for the topping, as cold cream cheese won’t mix well with the whipped cream. Divide the cream topping between two bowls. Color the topping in one bowl and leave the other white.
Hot chocolate. To make the cocoa, heat the milk and cream, then turn off heat and add the chocolate chips and cocoa. Easy!
Assembly. Divide the chocolate drink between two glasses. Then top off with the colored topping, stir, and the add some of the white topping. I like to use a piping bag to add the white topping. You can now decorate with cocoa, grated chocolate, sugar-free sprinkles, or even berries. Have fun!

Keto Red Velvet Hot Chocolate
- In a medium bowl, beat heavy cream until stiff. Add softened cream cheese, sweetener, and vanilla, and whisk until smooth.
- Take half of the cream into separate bowl and add red food coloring. Mix until color is well blended. Keep both bowls of cream topping in fridge while preparing the hot chocolate.
- Heat almond milk and heavy cream in small saucepan until mixture begins to simmer and is hot. Turn off heat and whisk in white chocolate chips and cocoa powder. Then add food coloring and stir until well blended.
- Pour hot chocolate into two glasses or mugs. Add colored cream topping and stir. Then add the white cream topping (you can use a piping bag if you like). Sprinkle with cocoa or grated chocolate if desired.
