This creamy Keto Bechamel or White Sauce is flour-free, grain-free, and gluten-free! Use it for lasagna, moussaka, cheese sauce, and so much more!

Bechamel or white sauce is one of those basic sauces every cook needs to have in their repertoire. Unfortunately, traditional Bechamel is made with a white roux that’s quite high in carbs due to the flour. However, it is possible to make a creamy and thick keto white sauce completely without the addition of flour or starches. Hooray!

TRY WHITE SAUCE WITH KETO SCHNITZEL

If you have 10 minutes, butter, cream cheese, heavy cream, and some salt and ground nutmeg, you can whip up this wonderful sauce! Use it for your classic lasagna, moussaka, or add some cheese to it for a creamy cheese sauce. You can pour it over sautéed vegetables, meat, and fish. It is incredibly versatile!

Tips for making a Keto Bechamel Sauce without flour!

Cream cheese. In a traditional Bechamel sauce, flour is used as a thickener. For our keto version, we will use cream cheese to thicken the sauce. Three ounces of cream cheese are enough to thicken 1 cup of heavy cream. However, if you like it extra thick, you can increase the amount of cream cheese.

Spices. I like to keep the aroma of my Keto Bechamel Sauce as clean and original as I can, and therefore only use salt and ground nutmeg to flavor it. However, based on your own preferences, you can add pepper, garlic, onion, or bay leaves to add more flavors to your sauce.

Make ahead. You can easily make this sauce ahead of time and save yourself some time on the day you make lasagna, moussaka, etc. Store the sauce in a covered container in your fridge and use it within a week. Keep in mind that this sauce will thicken overtime. You can easily thin it down by heating up the sauce in a saucepan and whisking in some heavy cream until it reaches the desired consistency.
