Make your own Keto Hot Chocolate Mix, sugar-free! Made with REAL chocolate, this sweet treat can be prepared in no time.

I love, love, LOVE hot chocolate! There is just nothing like relaxing with a cup of creamy hot chocolate on a cold winter evening. When I went low-carb, I knew I had to come up with a sugar-free, keto hot chocolate mix that can become part of my routine. I didn’t want it to be a hassle to make myself a cup of that chocolatey treat.

This INSTANT keto hot chocolate mix is it! One batch of this recipe makes about 25 cups of hot chocolate! And all you’ve got to do is mix 3 heaping tablespoons of the mix with one cup of boiled HOT water to make yourself a delicious cup of keto hot chocolate.

To make it keto, we will use heave cream powder, erythritol, cocoa, and sugar-free chocolate. In my opinion, it if says hot chocolate, it needs to include actual CHOCOLATE! Enjoy it yourself or make a batch as a thoughtful gift for family or friends (who wouldn’t appreciate that??).

Tips for making creamy KETO Hot Chocolate!

Ingredients for Homemade Sugar Free Keto Hot Chocolate Mix.

Heavy cream powder. Regular hot chocolate mixes contain milk powder, which isn’t low-carb. Instead, we will be using heavy cream powder! I love Anthony’s heavy cream powder. It contains NO fillers and the powder dissolves nicely in hot water. Just what we need!

Cocoa. I use Dutch processed cocoa. This cocoa has been “alkalized” and has a smoother and milder flavor than natural cocoa. Dutched cocoa is the kind that is usually found in commercial chocolates and ice creams. It works great for hot chocolate. To remove any clumps, sieve cocoa into your mixing bowl.

Chocolate chips. To add depth to this hot chocolate mix, we will use both white and milk chocolate chips, sugar-free of course. Grate the chips in your blender. Don’t worry about grating them perfectly into powder. I like a combination of finely grated and smaller pieces of chocolate. If you don’t have a blender or food processor, just chop the chocolate chips finely. You can also use sugar-free chocolate bars in that case.

Erythritol. I found a combination of powdered and granular erythritol works best for instant hot chocolate. It gives the mix both some sweetness and bulk. I use Swerve Sweetener confectioners, but you can also use regular powdered erythritol.

  1. Wow. I’m just starting to explore keto options, and I don’t think I’m rich enough to do it. This hot chocolate mix (which sounds delicious) comes out to $4.18/ounce if I use the Amazon links (other than salt) in the list of ingredients. Just to compare apples to apples, or as nearly so as I could find, Amazon also sells “Keto Coco” from Giant Sports International for the only slightly lower price of $3.53/ounce (and is still more than I can pay).

    • Hi Jeff, buying high-quality ingredients certainly can be costly, especially if we are used to buying cheap high-carb foods filled with sugar, flour, corn, and high fructose corn syrup. (that are heavily subsidized by the government).
I think there are many ways to keep the cost low nonetheless. We can learn which recipes work for us, meal plan, etc. You can read my post on that topic here: https://lowcarbabode.com/10-tips-for-eating-high-quality-keto-on-a-budget/
But I think most importantly we need to keep in mind that the money we spend on our food now, we will save later in life due to good health, weight management, fewer/no meds, less doctors visits, etc. That’s at least how I see it ☺️

  2. Wow! That was very sweet! I just made batch and then made a cup to test it out. If I make it again, I will cut the sweetners in half and add some vanilla while whirring it in the food processor. Thanks!

  3. “One batch of this recipe makes about 18 cups of hot chocolate!”
    AND
    “SERVINGS 25 servings” (recipe card)

So … which one is it? 18 or 25?

    Thanks for all you do!
